Day 1: Alcalá de Henares

Let me start with a bit of history of Alcalá de Henares.

Alcalá de Henares has important archeological remains which testify the presence of different people and cultures in the city. Its foundation can be traced back to the old Celt-Iberian town of Ikesancom Kombouto. The Romans called it Complutum; hence the name given to the natives of this city, Complutenses. When the Moslems invaded and became fortress known as “Al Qal’at Wadil-hiyara, from which the city inherits its current denomination.

A sweet treat at the lobby of Parador De Alcalá de Henares

The rooms of this new Parador have been designed thinking of guest’s comfort, creating a cosy and bright atmosphere in perfect contrast with the monumentality of the concent, the history of the 17th century workshops and the most up-to-date modernity of the rooms which extend below the magic of  a crafted garden.

The Parador de Alcalá de Henares is situated in the heart of the historic city centre of Alcalá alongside the emblematic Plaza Cervantes and the Cisneriana University; surrounded by ancient university colleges which give the street it is located on its name. The Barajas Airport and the capital’s fairgrounds are located just 20km away.
