Janiqueel has a peek at a unique line of swimsuits – individually crafted and fetching
I always say, ‘Do you have a body? Then you’re swimsuit ready.’ That’s all you need to worry about.

Just one look. That’s all it took to see that SEVENTY ONE SWIM is a new contemporary brand to be reckoned with and has its own SIGNATURE STITCH. A “signature stitch?? Stay tuned for an explanation.
Keying in on the fact that 71% of the earth’s surface is covered in water, “Seventy One” was a natural name for a water-based style brand that prides itself on its natural materials, techniques and artisans.
So… the stitch. What’s this about the stitch – the ‘signature stitch’? For the definitive explanation, we turned to the source – Divya, the founder of Seventy One Swim, who was kind enough to respond to Janiqueel’s questions. Asked what one aspect of Seventy One that an article should not fail to mention, she said,
We want people discovering our brand for the first time to know about our signature stitch… The Seventy One swim surface stitch assists in slimming one’s figure while delivering fit, flexibility and stretch. The silky soft threads weave into both sides of our reversible swimwear creating a multi-coloured, tactile experience, no matter which side you wear it. Hand embroidered by artisans, no two are exactly alike!
With roots in the ancient method of KANTHA, the Seventy One Swim Swim shares the double stitch technique with its predecessor from the Indian Subcontinent. Back in the day, the stitch bound together patches of cloth, commonly from disused saris, producing a vivid amalgam of colours and textures reminiscent of its Indian origins. Because the stitch is flat and continuous, it is the key to the reversibility of the swimwear. Conversation starter: tell your swim friends about the SOS stitch, offer to show it to them, and reverse it for them.
Like the fabrics it represents, Seventy One Swim blends cultural influences to produce swimwear that is one-of-a-kind. No two pieces are alike. Yes, you will attract attention. Be ready.
Asked about the sustainable initiatives of the brand, Divya offered:
- We only use existing stock fabric & colours
- We opted for digital printing, instead of screen, due to water pollution
- All of our (minimal) packaging is sustainable and recyclable.
We have many ideas and plans in the pipeline to reduce our footprint and give back to the community and planet Earth as we continue to grow.
So, feel good about your swimwear and be assured that it is environmentally-conscious. Then, as long as you are riding a feel-good wave, reflect on how good you look at the pool or beach sporting the flattering fabrics and sexy suits of SOS.
Where in the world will you wear SEVENTY ONE SWIM?
