Pillars of Well-Being at the Westin Langkawi

Janiqueel and Mr C find relaxation and luxury in Langkawi

The breaks you take from work pay you back manifold when you return because you come back with a fresher mind and newer thinking. Some of your best ideas come when you’re on vacation.

As we sipped tea and had a treat at Changi Airport, Mr C and I were anticipatory about our flight to Langkawi. I’ll be honest – the anticipation did have a rather large portion of nervousness. One of Mr C many trips to another country with only his loyal mother as a caregiver. Would he cry? Would his ears hurt? Would he be jumping around in his seat (and those nearby)? Who knew? Not me. I sipped my tea apprehensively. Mr C squirmed.

When we boarded and found our seats, I settled the boy into his, buckled us up, and arranged pillows and blanket so that he was as snug as the bug in the proverbial rug. He fell asleep before we lifted off. He woke up as I carried him up the jet way in Langkawi. We did it! The smooth trip proved to be a harbinger of an amazing five days of rest, relaxation, and renewal. Who knew?

At the airport gate, we were welcomed by the staff from the Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa and our driver awaited. After a quick 20-minutes car ride, Ms Jana Ponnudurai and hotel staffs greeted us and she generally answered our every need for the entire stay. She is the “Cluster Marketing & Communication Director” at the Westin and St Regis Langkawi. With representatives like Jana, it’s easy to see how the Westin has a reputation as a top-flight resort destination in Southeast Asia.

Perched on its own beachfront on the Andaman Sea, “The Westin Langkawi offers a seamless blend of tropical nature with contemporary comfort, making it the ideal beach resort for an exotic escape.” I couldn’t have put it better myself. The offshore islands provide a lush green backdrop to the resort and to the individual rooms. I was ready for a comfortable room, but, as we walked through the courtyard and into our quarters, I was overwhelmed by the five-star standard that greeted us. Mr C was overwhelmed by the soft carpets and jumpable bed. Then he saw our private pool. Oh, My Goodness!

We were tempted to never leave the room, but eventually, the sun began to drop over the sea and we headed for the aptly named Breeze Lounge to watch the Andaman turn deep blue, then rosy pink as the sunset matched our mood of wonder at being so afar away from the city and its cares. Sipping my chilled Sauvignon Blanc (Mr C chose a tropical mocktail) we once again marvelled at the good fortune that placed us here. Then we had dinner.

Oh My goodness/ Have I said that? For our first dinner, we chose the TIDE, “…speciality beach-front cabana-styled restaurant that boasts a selection of fresh seafood grills and succulent steaks in the evenings. We had fresh seafood. We had succulent steaks. We had another Sauvignon Blanc. We were content.

Returning to our room after our big day. We tucked into our “so big” king-size bed and listened as the waves softly kissed the shore. We had ventured smack dab into the Westin brand’s six-pillared philosophy — “Feel Well, Work Well, Move Well, Eat Well, Sleep Well and Play Well” We slept well.

In bullet form, here are some of the experiences that continued our six-pillared stay:

  • MOVE WELL – a morning walk on the beach with an in-house naturalist. I remembered my waking gear. If I hadn’t it’s available for guests’ use.
  • EAT WELL – breakfast buffet at the Seasonal Tastes Restaurant. I love breakfast buffets. This one was special. A variety of foods for every cultural palate was available. The Juicery refreshed us with freshly squeezed juices.
  • FEEL WELL – at mid-afternoon, we found the HEAVENLY SPA on the beach. On the beach! So Southeast Asia. Sooooo relaxing. For Janiqueel? Full body massage, of course.
  • PLAY WELL – While I luxuriated under the palm trees and under the palms of my masseuse, Mr C found an adult friend to take him to KIDS CLUB where he played games and generally messed around free of his mother’s supervision.
  • WORK WELL – Honestly, work may have been the last think on my mind in the midst of all this wellness but, nonetheless, I discovered several calm, quiet places to pull out my laptop and catch up on various writing projects. Earbuds in. Beatless ambient music on — this is the way to work.
  • SLEEP WELL – Once again, after a day full of new discoveries and maximum enjoyment, we slept like babies. And only one of us actually qualifies as a baby.

Until December 2020, the Westin Langkawi is offering a family package at a very reasonable price considering the quality of the accommodation and facilities. Click here for more info.

For Easter, there’s an Easter Dinner Buffet at Seasonal Tastes and Tide restaurant along with egg painting for the kids in the morning during breakfast.

Langkawi – So near, yet a world away.

Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer.
