Many resorts offer pool and play areas where kids can safely run, shout, play, laugh and SPLASH. Honestly, kids love it. My kid, C is no exception. They love to be around water and other water-loving kids. Hitting that sweet spot where creature comfort and rollicking fun meet. C was fully into the concept as soon as he saw the superbly-appointed room with two queen beds and a private terrace leading directly to the water and to FUN. While the six-year-old C got his water groove on, I had a chance to dream about the many dining options available for parents and kids made thoroughly hungry by all the good-time exercise.
Beyond the terrace, the waterventure is replete with shallow pools, exhilarating slides, tunnels, exercise bars, and structural getaways where youngsters can pretend that they are beyond the watchful eyes of their guardians. Spoiler – they never are. Because the terrace rooms are cheek-by-jowl with the adventure zone, I felt like I could fulfil my maternal duties while ducking in and out of the room for snacks, sunscreen, or a good read while the young C caromed around the play space that, by the way, reminded me of a tropical lagoon, albeit a lagoon made for safe for water exploits and (in my case) a marvellous perch for some quality “me-time”.
Whenever we felt the need to get away from the frenetic activity lagoon-style, for some more thoughtful exploration, WONDERLAND EXPLORERS was there for us. In collaboration with the Jeffrey Sachs Center On Sustainable Development, Wonderland Explorers places its emphasis on science and sustainability. Through activities such as candle-making, batik painting, origami, “ready-set-sort”, Our diverse World, soup-making, super planter, the digital world, and SUPER CHEF, kids are encouraged to let their creativity flow while appreciating the interconnectedness of earth’s many aspects and the part we each play within each.
Catching the imagination of C, the Super Chef activity earned a place on our agenda. While learning about the importance of nutrition to overall good health, C and his colleagues produced sushi all by themselves. Well.. with a little help from the good-natured guides and the occasional prompting of Mom. Even Gordon Ramsay had to start somewhere!
Speaking of Gordon Ramsay, Sunday found us eager to enjoy the Roast Lunch at the celebrated Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill. Although such a sophisticated menu and service might not have been C’s first choice, he had his culinary desires met the evening before at BLACK TAP. Just the mention of CrazyShake® milkshakes was enough to whet the young child’s appetite. After seeing one delivered to a neighbouring table, C just had to have the Cotton Candy Shake. Me? I opted for Chili Crisp. Heaven in a soda glass! For eats, we split a Percik Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Asian Street Corn. It was scrum-dilly-sumptuous and nutritious, as well!
But, back to the meal at Gordon Ramsay Bar and Grill… We were right on time (noon) for the Sunday Roast with a Twist. “Savour the traditional flavours of our British Sunday Roast with all the trimmings” extolled our agenda. Every Sunday the Roast is paired with either a “cocktail masterclass” (whiskey or wine tasting). Even C appreciated the opulent setting, the attentive service, and the sumptuous desserts. Did we enjoy our Sunday repast? Oh, My goodness, YES – we enjoyed it!
From check-in on Friday to leaving on Monday, we enjoyed another world. A world of water fun, relaxation and creative dining. In our humble opinion, Sunway Resort Hotel 2021 renovation has been a great success because it focuses on individual needs – like me and six-year-old C.
