GE2025: Voting with Compassion, Not Resentment

Since the day I became eligible to vote, I have never once voted for ____. Why? Because I felt hopeless about the state Singapore is in.

For decades, I have used my online presence to advocate for loving-kindness, gentleness, compassion, empathy, and humility. I have built a space free of judgment and shame. Yet, here I am, unconsciously punishing a group of people by voting for the opposition.

I often wondered why. And then, it hit me—I judged and shamed this party for its mistakes. But the truth is, we all know the system is flawed, and we all know it can be better. The system is run by people—imperfect, flawed, and human.

Maybe we should cut them some slack. Give them time to improve, to do better. A gracious and forgiving society allows room for reflection, for better planning, for real progress. To think that relentless criticism alone will force them to perform better is, quite frankly, naive.

So, I leave you with this: Vote for the party you believe will do your vote justice. As MP Mr. Baey said, every vote matters.

“How can I earn yours, Janice?”

Well, safe to say, sire—you just did, simply by asking. Thank you.

1 Feb 2024: Minister Chan Chun Sing visited my kid’s school and principal shared how tickled he was by me. I wonder why?
3 Feb 2024: CNY lunch with Mr Desmond Choo
17 Jan 2024: I have always been extremely careful who I speak to as it could retraumatize me. Why don’t I tap into that beautifully humanly kind energy of his now? Thank you for allowing me to be vulnerable and being gentle with me.
27 Jan 2025: Experiencing Mr Baey in action during the Meet-the-People Session was truly an eye-opener. Volunteering to write residents’ appeals has taught me so much about Singapore’s system and affairs.

After a decade of copywriting, nothing feels more fulfilling than using my skills to make a positive impact on people’s lives. Seeing the tangible difference my words can make highlights the true purpose and value of my work. It’s not just about writing; it’s about empathy, connection, and helping others in meaningful ways. This fulfillment drives me to continue perfecting my craft and making a difference.

All the volunteers were also absolutely lovely. Already looking forward to the next MPS.

Community and Green Spaces: Introducing play spaces for children’s development; promoting energy-efficient buildings and cooling networks.

Resident Engagement: Involving residents in designing community spaces to reflect Tampines’ identity.

This plan aims to make Tampines a people-first town with improved connectivity, vibrant public spaces, and strong community involvement.
