Global Phenomenon & chart-topping K-POP Band BTS to make highly anticipated U.S. TV performance debut at the “2017 American Music Awards”

Global chart- topping Korean pop band, BTS, is set to make their highly anticipated U.S. television performance debut at the “2017 American Music Awards.” Idolized and passionately supported by their massive fan ARMY, BTS has quickly risen from the ranks as K-pop newcomers and are poised for immense growth. With their popularity thriving in markets across all of Asia and mounting tremendously in the Americas, the boy band’s super-stardom has garnered a sky-rocketing trajectory of success in just a few short years. BTS has notched more than 40 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Social 50 chart, which ranks the most popular artists across social networks. Most recently, BTS became the first ever K-pop act to break into the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. Their fifth and latest EP, Love Yourself: Her, debuted at No. 7, the highest-ever for a K-pop act on the chart. BTS will treat fans to the premiere of their brand new single, “DNA,” live at the American Music Awards for their first ever U.S. television performance. The “2017 American Music Awards,” the world’s largest fan-voted awards show where music enthusiasts watch their favorite artists and pop culture icons come together to honor idols, newcomers and record-breakers in the contemporary music scene, will celebrate 45 years of music live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 9:00am (8:00am JKT/BKK) first and exclusive on RTL CBS Entertainment.

Within four years of their 2013 debut, BTS went from winning several newcomer awards – including the Newcomer Award at the 2014 Golden Disc Awards, New Artist Award at the 2014 Seoul Music Awards, and Best New Artist at the 2015 Japan Gold Disc Awards – to becoming full-fledged Korean super idols. Comprised of band members Rap Monster, V, JungKook, Jin, Suga, J-Hope and Jimin, their remarkable impact is felt not only in Korea and all of Asia, but across the globe. Concert tickets and merchandise sales around the world confirm their universal appeal. Most recently, BTS has been recognized with awards including Best Korean Act at the 2015 MTV Europe Music Awards, Choice International Artist at the 2017 Teen Choice Awards, and Favorite International Artist or Group at the 2017 Nickelodeon Mexico Kids’ Choice Awards. BTS also won the Top Social Artist award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, ultimately proving K-pop can compete and thrive on a global scale.

As previously announced, music legend, Diana Ross, will take the stage for a rare performance at the “2017 American Music Awards” and will be honored with the “American Music Award for Lifetime Achievement.” Christina Aguilera will pay tribute to Whitney Houston and music from “The Bodyguard” with a performance in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary, which falls on the same week as the awards ceremony. Additionally, multi- platinum pop superstar, Selena Gomez, will treat fans to the world television premiere of her brand new single “Wolves.”

Nominations for the “2017 American Music Awards” were announced in early October. Bruno Mars leads with eight nominations, including Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, and Favorite Male Artist – Pop/Rock. The Chainsmokers, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran and The Weeknd tied with five nominations each, while Justin Bieber, Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi received four nominations each. Additionally, Keith Urban earned three nominations, and Rihanna and Halsey earned two nominations each.

The American Music Awards winners are voted entirely by fans. Voting is now open in all categories.

The Artist of the Year nominees are Bruno Mars, The Chainsmokers, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Ed Sheeran. Voting for Artist of the Year will close on Friday, November 17 at 12:59:59 PM (11:59:59AM JKT/BKK). Voting for all other editorial categories closes on Monday, November 14 at 12:59:59 AM (11:59:59 PM JKT/BKK).

For New Artist of the Year presented by T-Mobile and Collaboration of the Year presented by Xfinity, fans can vote for each award 100 times per day, per voting platform in one or both of the ways: Via web at billboard.com/amas and theamas.com/vote or by Posting a tweet on Twitter that includes the nominee’s name or Twitter handle, the category name and #AMAs within the tweet.

Fans can vote for all other awards once per day, per voting platform.

American Music Awards nominees are based on key fan interactions as reflected in Billboard Magazine and on Billboard.com, including album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, social activity and touring. These measurements are tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. The eligibility period for the “2017 American Music Awards” was September 9, 2016 to September 14, 2017.
