Singapore’s Night Safari has always been a top destination for those eager to experience wildlife after dark, but the latest additions make it even more exciting. With the opening of the Pangolin Trail and the New Asian Bull Elephant Habitat in October 2024, guests can now immerse themselves in the wonders of Southeast Asian wildlife and observe one of the world’s most iconic creatures, the Asian elephant, like never before.
The Revamped Pangolin Trail: A Journey Through Southeast Asian Wildlife
The Pangolin Trail, stretching 540 meters, is a thoughtfully revamped walking path that takes visitors through 15 exhibits, six of which are entirely new. This trail is home to over 50 animals, including approximately 30 housed within a new sheltered segment. The trail beautifully integrates the diverse habitats of Southeast Asia, allowing for a unique and immersive experience as you encounter various species.

Key Highlights:
- Species Diversity: The trail features 11 Southeast Asian species, such as the Sunda pangolin, Sunda slow loris, and the elusive spotted giant flying squirrel. Other animals include the binturong, lesser mouse deer, oriental small-clawed otter, and more.
- Natural Habitat Design: The trail’s design is geared towards enhancing the animals’ well-being by simulating their native environments. Increased heights, long vines, and mixed-species habitats encourage animals to express natural behaviors, creating a more authentic experience for both animals and guests.
- Conservation Focus: A highlight of the Pangolin Trail is the Sunda pangolin exhibits, where four rescued pangolins reside. These critically endangered animals, once trafficked or injured, now live safely under the care of Mandai Wildlife Group.
Special Experiences:
At the interactive ranger station, guests can learn about the plight of the Sunda pangolin, the world’s most trafficked wild mammal, and how they can contribute to conservation efforts. Additionally, from now until January 2025, visitors can enjoy daily feeding sessions at 8:45 pm as part of the Night Safari’s 30th-anniversary celebrations.
New Asian Bull Elephant Habitat: Home to Chawang
For the first time ever, visitors can observe Chawang, Night Safari’s iconic Asian bull elephant, from a dedicated lookout deck accessible on foot. The new exhibit spans over 4,300 square meters, more than double the size of Chawang’s previous facility, offering a space that prioritizes the elephant’s mental and physical enrichment.

Key Highlights:
- Enrichment-Focused Design: Chawang’s new habitat includes enrichment devices like 8-meter-tall poles and an automated hay dispenser that releases hay at random intervals to mimic natural grazing behaviors. Mobile app-controlled feeding boxes and a 3-meter-deep pool add to Chawang’s dynamic environment, offering him plenty of activities throughout the day.
- A Rare Close-Up Experience: Guests now have the unique opportunity to observe an Asian elephant up close, on foot—a first for Night Safari visitors. The new habitat aims to deepen visitors’ understanding of the importance of elephant conservation and the significance of Chawang’s role as an ambassador for his species.
Conservation at the Core
Both the Pangolin Trail and the new elephant habitat underscore Mandai Wildlife Group’s commitment to conservation. The revitalized exhibits not only provide enriching experiences for the animals but also engage and educate the public on the critical challenges these species face in the wild. The Night Safari is not just a place to observe animals; it is a vital platform for spreading awareness and encouraging global efforts to protect endangered species.
