A consumer’s’ primer on the basics behind hydration and health
Focused on hydration, JGlas Skin Care products offer a plethora of products designed for a hot and humid climate. Sound familiar? That’s Singapore in a climatological nutshell. Sometimes, though, wading through the terms and promises of skin care products can be a hot, humid slog. Janiqueel called on Joelle Ong, founder and owner of JGlas, to help explain some of the patois of the trade. She proved a wealth of knowledge in general and an insight into the JGlas line in particular.
“Antioxidant” is a good example. We encounter the word often, assume that it is a good thing, and move on trusting that we know something when maybe we really don’t. What is it? Crucially, what does it have to do with healthy, glowing skin? Janiqueel turned to the expert, Joelle Ong of JGlas for a pithy explanation. “Antioxidants are compounds found in food or skincare that stop or delay damage to the human cells. They help ward off cell damage by “cleaning up” or removing waste products in our cells, called free radicals before they can do harm.” OK. Got it. An antioxidant is a pore-level cleaner that gives the skin a chance to open up and breathe in the nourishing qualities of products like the JGlas refreshing toner which felt soooo good to janiqueel during a pause in the heat of the action of a recent tennis outing. An outing, incidentally, where her backhand finally showed some real promise. Have a look at the Queen of the Court on JGlas Instagram.
Looks refreshing, doesn’t she? She has been misted, refreshed and toned. She is ready to slam that little green ball with a renewed sporty aplomb. Does she sometimes exaggerate? Um.. only sometimes and only a little teeny bit.

“Antioxidant” is a relatively common term and dear readers now have a handy definition for it. But just when we thought we were so smart, though, JGlas throws in “hyaluronic acid” and touts it as a boon to those beauties hankering after the brass ring of even more pulchritude. Joelle Ong, can you help? “Hyaluronic Acid (HA) also known as hyaluronan or hyaluronate, is a carbohydrate, more specifically a mucopolysaccharide occurring naturally throughout the human body.” use that at your next cocktail party when the subject of hyaluronic acid comes up as it invariably does. For clarification you might add, Joelle Ong of JGlas:
It is found in both the deep underlying dermal areas as well as the visible epidermal top layers. With age, the ability of the skin to produce HA decreases.
At JGlas, many of our products are combined with this powerful ingredient that we strongly advocate as an important ingredient to healthy glowy skin which is hyaluronic acid. It is also an ingredient widely used by many aestheticians in the world.
In short, hyaluronic acid is good for you – good for your skin. Sadly it is less prevalent as one ages. Therefore adding it to skin care products is a method of rejuvenating skin and, extrapolating, renewing a youthful glow.
Taking your skin with you on the next trip? Joelle Ong of JGlas says, “We love Cleanse+Exfoli powder as a facial cleanser along with Pure Hydrating Rosewater toner and B-cellular serum as a moisturizer. These products are compact enough to bring along in a pouch for traveling.”
JGlas skin care products have a natural home here in hot, humid Singapore.
